THE DISC
" Yann Cléry, flautistGuyanese singer and singer who we have already seen alongside Mo'Kalamity or within Chlorine Free, is embarking on a solo adventure, soberly
titled
YANN SOLO. Nothing to do here with a space opera, even if like a Jedi, Yann dexterously handles his laser flute and skillfully tames the machines that accompany him in this musical production which offers us12 titles exceptional. From the first opening song, he sets the tone with the anthem“Afropunk”. Because that’s where his roots come from: afro in the affirmation of his creoleness, and definitely punk in the soul and the energy he deploys. The rest of the album subtly refines and asserts itself with sonic nuances. Reggae dancehall with“Starter” on whichQueen Omega puts her voice as a guest, French touch with pop accentselectropical with titles like “Eva” which talks about filiation,“French Accent” Or“Let’s remain good friends” which turn into self-mockery a very French arrogance or a romantic separation, trip hop with the sublime
“Kind of Blues”, a little gem worthy of the best hours of Massive Attack, or ragga-jungle with“Stop racism” and the energetic“Furious Dancehall”. Wanderings which also take us into a“Journey to Flutisia”, because Yann is also an accomplished jazz musician who handles his instrument with virtuosity, summoning the elements" Water " And" Fire ", during interludes which punctuate the album or addressing the “Wind and Moon” to conclude this opus. A record designed between Paris and Guyana and mixed atLondonin a sound-system spirit withbig bassEnglish style highlighted and voices treated as instruments. To be placed somewhere in your ideal playlist, between Asian Dub, Tricky, Dowdelin, David Walters or Roots Manuva..."
