The Parisian collective Chlorine Free is the spearhead of the new electro funk jazz scene. From the outset, one quickly thinks of the mythical Headhunters, Herbie Hancock's legendary funk band. But to stop at this comparison would be a serious mistake, because the septet has been trying to digest the golden age of hip-hop (A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul...), Nu Soul (D'Angelo, Galliano) and experimental electro (Squarepusher, a reference claimed by Virgile Lorach, leader of the group).

"Le Fish" album released in May 2014 is a reflection of this heritage. If the group fulfills its debt to the greatest (Gang's Up for Herbie Hancock, or the electro of Kom Jentinson for Squarepusher), it is to better free itself from it.


There are various nuggets straight out of the golden age of funk-jazz (Black Bass, Peacock, John Fish...), hallucinogenic electro brackets (Kill The Fly, Cafeine, 9 Minus One, Purple Gate, One Shot), and live hip-hop (Natural Blend, The Bomb, Thankful...) which had made the band famous on their first album. A matter of passionate people, gathered around a groove anchored in today's world and designed to free themselves from the straitjacket of "genre music".
